The top winner in the 2012 GMIC-SV appAttack contest is Waigo Translate, a mobile language translation app developed by Translate Abroad that provides instant Chinese, Japanese or Korean translation into English via the iPhone.
The Top 5 finalists in the GMIC-SV appAttack contest also included:
Vilynx, a service that lets people manage their personal videos across multiple smartphones, tablets, desktops, and cloud storage services;
Blippar, an image-recognition phone app that lets advertisers reach consumers through exciting augmented reality experiences and instantaneous content;
Fleksy, a mobile keyboard application technology developed by Syntellia that allows users to type and not make mistakes without looking at their mobile screen; and,
Snappli, a mobile data app that speeds download of mobile web pages, apps and video and slashes user data and roaming charges through compression of data on a cloud-based platform.
As a co-sponsor of appAttack, StartMeApp provided prizes that included download credit certificates for each of the appAttack Top 20 finalists, plus a $5,000 cash prize for the Top Winner of the competition, Waigo Translate.

The appAttack competition’s three-tiered process winnowed down hundreds of mobile app submissions from more than 40 countries and across multiple content categories to the Top 100 finalists, each of whom won the opportunity to present their mobile applications in a free Startup exhibition booth at the two-day GMIC-SV conference.
Judging on GMIC-SV’s Day One narrowed the appAttack Top 100 to a Top 20 list of apps, each of which presented to judges in a round of 3-minute pitches on Day Two of the conference. The pitch process narrowed the competition to a Top 5 list of apps, each of which won the opportunity to demo on the GMIC Main Stage in front of hundreds of mobile industry executives, entrepreneurs and developers.
Following the Top 5 Main Stage presentations, Waigo Translate was announced as the appAttack Top Winner and the $5,000 grand prize check presented on stage by StartMeApp Co-Managing Director and Founder Alejandro Campos Carlés.
